Foo Fighters “Your Favorite Toy”

“Your Favorite Toy” is the twelfth studio album by legendary American rock band Foo Fighters, released on April 24, 2026, via Roswell and RCA Records.

Following the deeply emotional and difficult release But Here We Are (2023), dedicated to the memory of late drummer Taylor Hawkins, the new album marks a true “spiritual reset” for the band. Dave Grohl described the record as a return to unrestrained joy, chaos, and the primal energy of loud rock and roll.

This is the band’s first studio album featuring drummer Ilan Rubin, who officially joined the lineup in 2025 (after Josh Freese had previously filled the touring role). Notably, Grohl and Rubin recorded the rhythm section together live and deliberately without a click track, aiming to preserve a raw, slightly chaotic, “human” feel.

It is also the first Foo Fighters album since 2014’s Sonic Highways not produced by longtime collaborator Greg Kurstin. Instead, the band worked with co-producer and engineer Oliver Roman, resulting in a grittier, more garage-oriented sound.

Dave Grohl described the album as a “back-to-basics” return. Most tracks were recorded live in a small room to capture the energy of a live performance.

Critics have compared the sound to the band’s late-90s work, noting fast tempos, dirty guitar riffs, and signature melodic hooks.

The lyrics range from ironic reflections on fame (“Child Actor”) to politically charged pessimism (“Amen, Caveman”), though the overall tone remains energetic and cathartic.

The title track “Your Favorite Toy” features backing vocals from Dave Grohl’s 16-year-old daughter, adding a personal and intimate touch to the recording.
