“HUN” is the third studio album by Mongolian Hunnu rock (Hun rock) band The HU, released on July 24, 2026, via Better Noise Music.
The album’s title translates from Mongolian as “human” or “humanity,” while also referencing the ancient Xiongnu (Hunnu) people, regarded as the ancestors of the Mongolian peoples. The release continues the band’s signature concept, blending traditional Mongolian throat singing (khöömii) and indigenous instruments—including the morin khuur (horsehead fiddle) and tovshuur—with the heavy rhythms of hard rock and heavy metal.
The album is dedicated to preserving cultural heritage, honoring the wisdom of ancestors, celebrating humanity’s connection with nature, and exploring the inner strength needed to endure times of hardship.
The 8-minute monumental composition “Universe” serves as an environmental statement. The track incorporates authentic sounds of Mongolian nature — steppe winds and the thunder of running horse herds — recorded by frontman Galbadrakh Tsendbaatar (Gala) during an expedition through the Gobi Desert.
All traditional instruments used during the recording — including the morin khuur, tovshuur, and tsuur — were handcrafted specifically for this album using ancient techniques preserved by master instrument makers from Ulaanbaatar.
Guest rock musicians appear on selected versions of several songs, including Jonny Hawkins of the American band Nothing More, who is featured on “Lost Soul.”
The record stands out for its powerful epic atmosphere, the deep resonant tones of Mongolian throat singing, and its sweeping arrangements that seamlessly merge heavy guitars with traditional folk instrumentation.
