KOIAI - Reboot the Abyss

Reboot the Abyss” is the official music video and one of the title tracks from the new EP Starting Over by the Japanese instrumental-vocal supergroup KOIAI. The official release of the video took place on July 15, 2026.

A fiery blend of technical djent, mainstream Japanese rock, and virtuoso solos made this release one of the highlights in the band’s discography.

Founded by guitar prodigy Li-sa-X, guitarist Hazuki (ex-Nemophila), and jazz/rock drummer Kanade Sato, KOIAI initially positioned itself more as a pop-rock / light-rock project. However, “Reboot the Abyss” demonstrates their radical shift toward a much heavier, more technical, and progressive sound.

The track is filled with fast-paced riffs, complex rhythmic fills, and guitar trade-offs between Li-sa-X and Hazuki.

Vocalist Mirei Sakurada perfectly balances an aggressive delivery in the verses with an emotional, melodic chorus.

A full bass part for the track and video was recorded by bassist Yunika Impact, who added extra density and heaviness to the rhythm section.

The word “Reboot” in the title became symbolic: the track marked a “reboot” for the band itself and their transition to a heavier, progressive metal aesthetic.

The video highlights the members’ technical mastery: the camera frequently focuses on rapid fretboard work by Li-sa-X and Hazuki, as well as Kanade Sato’s technical drumming behind the kit.
