“Aurora” is the twenty-fourth studio album by the legendary British rock band Yes, one of the founding and most influential pillars of progressive rock. The album was officially released on June 12, 2026, via InsideOutMusic.
The record marks the band’s first full-length studio release in three years, following “Mirror to the Sky” (2023), and demonstrates that despite their long history and numerous lineup changes, Yes continues to create complex, profound, and sophisticated music.
The title “Aurora” refers to both the Northern Lights and the dawn, reflecting the album’s overarching themes. According to longtime band leader and producer Steve Howe, the concept centers on renewal, light, environmental awareness, and the endless journey of the human spirit through time and space.
Musically, “Aurora” continues the traditions of classic 1970s symphonic progressive rock while benefiting from crystal-clear modern production. The album features:
- Virtuosic and instantly recognizable guitar work from Steve Howe, including acoustic passages and the use of pedal steel guitar.
- Expansive keyboard soundscapes created by Geoff Downes.
- The signature high vocal harmonies of Jon Davison, faithfully carrying forward the band’s classic vocal legacy.
- A tight and dynamic rhythm section provided by Billy Sherwood and Jay Schellen.
The album’s seven-minute title epic, “Aurora,” also features a full string orchestra conducted by Paul K. Joyce, adding a cinematic grandeur to the band’s already expansive sound.
With its blend of technical musicianship, atmospheric arrangements, and reflective themes, “Aurora” stands as a testament to Yes’s enduring creativity and their continued ability to evolve while remaining true to the essence of progressive rock.
