“EI8HT” (stylized as EI8HT or Eight) is the eighth studio album by American rock band Shinedown, released on May 29, 2026, via Atlantic Records.
This ambitious 18-track record was developed over the course of approximately eighteen months and serves as the successor to the conceptual album Planet Zero (2022). Unlike its predecessor, which focused heavily on socio-political issues and cancel culture, “EI8HT” is positioned as an album “for everyone.” It is more personal, stylistically diverse, and filled with arena-ready anthems centered on human emotions, resilience, and inner strength.
According to frontman Brent Smith, the album reflects authenticity, humanity, and forward momentum without attempting to replicate the band’s past successes. Throughout the recording process, the group placed a strong emphasis on organic elements and live instrumental performances.
This marks the third consecutive Shinedown album—following Attention Attention and Planet Zero—for which bassist Eric Bass handled the entire production, engineering, and mixing process. Recording sessions took place at his own Big Animal Studio in Charleston, South Carolina. Bass also personally composed all of the album’s orchestral and string arrangements.
The opening portion of the album surprised critics with its theatrical approach. The track “At the Bottom” blends Elton John-inspired piano melodies with dark, gothic hard-rock textures, while “Burning Down the Disco” is built around dance-punk rhythms rarely associated with Shinedown’s traditional sound.
The song “Searchlight” stands out as one of the most unique entries in the band’s catalog—a full-fledged acoustic country-rock ballad featuring traditional instruments such as banjo, fiddle, and lap steel guitar. Shinedown first performed the track live in 2025 at the legendary Grand Ole Opry stage in Nashville.
Although the album was released in 2026, Brent Smith revealed that much of the material for “EI8HT” had been written before the release of Planet Zero. The first two singles, “Three Six Five” and “Dance, Kid, Dance,” were issued as early as January 2025, extending the album’s promotional campaign over nearly a year and a half.
If “EI8HT” can be summarized in a single phrase, it is an emotional, expansive, and highly diverse arena-rock album that combines classic Shinedown elements with new influences ranging from industrial rock to country music.
For listeners who consider The Sound of Madness, Amaryllis, and Attention Attention among the band’s finest works, “EI8HT” feels like an attempt to unite every era of Shinedown’s evolution into one grand statement.
