“STATICA” is the official music video and title track from the surprise EP by the side project / alter-ego of the legendary American metal band Avenged Sevenfold. The video was released on July 31, 2026.
Avenged Sevenfold continues to blur the lines between metal, electronic music, and multimedia art. The STATICA project dropped a 4-track EP (Lights, Statica, Rejoice, Ashes) without any prior announcement.
The sound completely departs from A7X’s classic heavy metal or metalcore style, featuring processed robotic vocals, futuristic synthesizers, a sci-fi atmosphere, industrial elements, and electronic dance music (EDM) influences.
The music video for the title track “STATICA” was directed by acclaimed director Lance Drake (who has previously worked with Muse, Miike Snow, and others). The video was shot in Northridge, California.
The video is styled in a dystopian, cyberpunk, and sci-fi aesthetic. It is filled with light projections (created by the STRANGELOOP Live team), dark anti-utopian set designs, and simulated digital glitches (glitch art), perfectly complementing the synth-heavy and mechanical nature of the song.
Much like the EP itself, the video was released entirely independently. The members of Avenged Sevenfold intentionally refrained from providing official comments or extensive promotion, letting the visual imagery and music speak for themselves while leaving space for fan theories.
The release of the STATICA project sparked significant buzz within the heavy music community. Because Avenged Sevenfold dropped this EP and music video without any advance notice and in a genre entirely atypical for them, audience reception turned out to be highly contrasting and polarized.
The response to the song and video “STATICA” can be described as polar yet deep. For some, it is a brilliant, atmospheric sci-fi experiment by mature musicians; for others, an electronic detour that strays too far from metal. Nevertheless, the release achieved its main goal—it got everyone talking.
